Kumon: a franchise which embraces diversity

Kumon: a franchise which embraces diversityOne of Kumon Australia and New Zealand’s key strengths is our franchise, with diversity being one of its pillars. Kumon franchisees come from a wide range of backgrounds – both professionally and personally. We have a variety of ages amongst our franchisees too, with all generations from Baby Boomers to Millennials to Generation Z represented in our network. As both Australia and New Zealand continue to embrace multiculturalism and different communities, our diverse franchise network means we are better placed to meet the changing needs and expectations of students and families. Our franchisees live and work in their local communities, and understand how Kumon can help local children thrive through the Kumon Mathematics and English programmes. Gender diversity is also a strength at Kumon. Many of our franchisees are women who build thriving education businesses. Furthermore, Kumon centres are places where girls excel in the study of advanced mathematics. A recent analysis of our enrolments from 2017 to 2023 reveals that we have maintained a near 50/50 gender split between girls and boys studying Kumon Mathematics. This trend continues all the way up to completion of the Kumon Mathematics programme, by which point students have studied advanced concepts such as calculus and trigonometry, and have developed confidence, a daily study habit, and a high level of mathematics ability. We regard this as significant because despite being equal in ability, girls in Australia and New Zealand too often remain underrepresented in the study of advanced mathematics. Lastly, Kumon’s branch and head offices embrace diversity, both in age and in personal and professional backgrounds. Gender equity is also embraced at Kumon Australia and New Zealand, with 56 percent of our leadership positions being occupied by women. We celebrate diversity at Kumon Australia and New Zealand, and look forward to welcoming many more Kumon franchisees to help us nurture children and realise their potential.
