New year, new career! Lead a local, community-oriented business as a Kumon franchisee

New year, new career! Lead a local, community-oriented business as a Kumon franchiseeThrough their contribution towards young children’s education, each Kumon franchise is a business that gives back to its local community. Sharon Pajares, franchisee of Kumon Butler Education Centre in Perth’s northern suburbs, believes that providing education is an invaluable contribution to the community because it equips children with the skills they need to grow into thriving, productive adults. It was this belief, along with a desire to run her own business and lead a more flexible lifestyle, which motivated Sharon to become a Kumon franchisee. Just over one year after opening, Sharon leads a thriving local, community-oriented business. “[Kumon Butler is] a true asset to our community through actively supporting young learners' education”, Sharon says. “By offering educational programs and opportunities, we help children gain knowledge and vital skills for future success. “Positive feedback and word-of-mouth recommendations from satisfied clients further demonstrates our commitment to nurturing future achievers. We also offer employment to qualified individuals, contributing to local economic growth and solidifying our place as a valued asset within our community”. Sharon’s passion for education comes from her upbringing in the Philippines, where quality education is highly sought after and valued. After completing her studies in veterinary medicine, Sharon migrated to Australia in 2008 and worked in Western Australia’s pork industry. However, after some time, Sharon wanted to switch to a career that could allow her to be her own boss, be flexible around family commitments, and grow into a leader in children’s education – opening a Kumon franchise was a perfect opportunity for Sharon. Furthermore, Sharon says that the support she received by joining the Kumon franchise network was vital as she had no prior experience in running a small business. “Kumon helps you all the way, from setting up the business, marketing and strategies, and then student instruction techniques”. Sharon explains. “It is ongoing training; we have monthly trainings, we have workshops. And then there are some helpful resources accessible via the online franchisee portal. At the very start, they also offer financial incentives and rent subsidies, which actually helps a lot when you are just starting out”. “This benefits franchisees with no business backgrounds, like me, because your branch and the head office are there to help you to succeed. You are not alone”.
