What makes a successful Kumon franchisee?
15 Sep 2021
Being a Kumon franchisee is a multifaced role, requiring a wide-range of skills and attributes. While as a minimum requirement candidates must have a bachelor’s degree in any field, permanent residency status in Australia or New Zealand, and a valid driver’s license and own transport, there are a range of key attributes we look for in prospective franchisees. Some of them are: • Leadership • Enjoyment in working with and motivating children • Business acumen • Strong organisational skills • Effective communication • Active involvement in the local community • Always seeking to improve. Kumon franchisees come from a wide-range of professional backgrounds. And while their experiences prior to Kumon may vary, our franchisees have all developed the necessary attributes by the time they open their centres. Sheryl Lee, the franchisee of Kumon Lane Cove Education Centre in Sydney, explains that this varied and strong skillset is essential for running a successful Kumon franchise. “Immediately before I started Kumon, I was working as a lawyer. I think the thing about Kumon is first and foremost, it's a business”, Sheryl says. “While you're educating, you also need to be able to run a business, to manage clients, to manage your own schedule, to make sure you're hitting all of the key deadlines at the right times and make sure you're managing all those relationships”. Successful Kumon franchisees also build a team of assistants to support them in running their business. They regularly consult with their FDC and the branch office about how they can grow and improve their franchises.
